Pastels + Prints + Denim, Oh My!

Interiors are often called “fashion for the home” so why not take a cue from the runway to inspire a home design refresh? We’re taking fashion week trends to our most intimate spaces so settle into your front row seat (or better yet, pull up the covers) and let’s go.

THE TREND: PASTELS

Soft shades of lavender, pale blue, pink, and sherbet sashayed down the spring runways.

When it comes to both wardrobes and interiors, this soft approach to color is easier to master than the ultra-bright hues seen on street style stars. And pastels add a hint of romance to a look, whether it’s a flowing frock or an accent wall. When it comes to interior design, subtle hints of pastel (think: throw pillows, duvets, accent pieces) keep a room from feeling too young or overly feminine.

THE TREND: MIXED PRINTS

A look for the daring and playful at heart, contrasting prints and colors make a bold style statement. Take a cue from the contrasting-yet-complimentary patterns and palettes on the spring runways and invigorate your home with an infusion of graphics. Bright ethnic patterns and iconic ‘60s prints are great places to start. Mix and match rugs, pillows, wallpapers, and textiles but stick with a similar aesthetic to avoid looking too busy. For a more subtle approach, start with bright, contrasting bed linens for a patterned peek-a-boo effect when hopping into bed.

THE TREND: DENIM

Denim is as classic as it gets but this spring the blues get a fresh look. While runway collections took a structured approach, home design is all about comfort and ease. Bring denim and chambray accents into your bedroom with textiles like coverlets, curtains and textile blinds, and accent pillows (or paint a denim accent wall). Denim blues pop against bright whites and yellows. Not ready to go deep blue? Cheat a true denim look with indigo-hued fabrics and knits.
