A duvet cover is a seamless way to add an extra layer to a bedscape, or top it off entirely — but it’s meant to be as practical as it is stylish. Think of it as a massive pillowcase for your duvet insert, keeping it fresh and protected. When all put together, it makes for an effortlessly chic look. But getting that duvet insert to fit perfectly inside its cover is not always the most intuitive task. Luckily, we’ve got some simple tips to help you get that cover on in a snap. Head down the list and get set for duvet success.

5 ½ Steps to Duvet Success:

1. Lay your comforter flat.

2. Turn your duvet cover inside out. Put one hand in each of the two top corners.

3. Keeping your hands inside the duvet cover, reach down to grab the two top corners of the comforter.

4. Keeping a firm grip on the comforter’s two top corners, flip the duvet cover over the comforter. Give it a shake and fluff until the duvet cover cascades downward and covers most of the comforter. (Tip: The shake-and-fluff part is more fun when you’ve got your most high-energy playlist on.)

5. Stuff the comforter’s two bottom corners inside the duvet cover’s bottom two corners. (Or, if you’re lucky enough to have ties or a hook-and-loop system that keeps the corners securely in place — like our duvets and duvet covers do — fasten those.)

5 ½. Zip it up — and reward yourself with a nap.
