We caught up with Meggan Bowlsby and Brooke Tredway, the stylish duo and real life friends behind the fashion and lifestyle blog Somewhere, Lately, to learn more about their design style, morning mantras, and nightstand essentials, and find out which one of them is a morning person. Read on to find out.



When you're at home, what does "allswell" mean to you?

 

Meggan: It means cuddling in bed with my whole family — 90 lb. dog included!

Brooke: No matter how difficult or challenging a day can be, when I lay down at night … allswelll! 

 

Tell us about one of your recent "allswell" moments.

 

Meggan: One Saturday morning we had no plans, so we all laid in bed together, had breakfast in bed, and watched a movie. Lazy mornings with the family are the best!

Brooke: We had the first thunderstorm of the season recently, and both of my girls crawled into our bed to sleep with us. Normally they’re very difficult to sleep with (like ninjas in the night), but this night they were the perfect sleeping angels! It was heaven! 

 

What do you do when need to relax?

 

Brooke: Take a deep breath (or 10), and think about all of the things I’m thankful for that are going right, instead of what may be going wrong. 



Do you prefer a softer or firmer mattress?

 

Meggan: I prefer a firmer mattress with super soft pillows!

Brooke: I live for a soft mattress

What three words describe how you want your home to feel?

 

Meggan: Welcoming, comfortable, and clean!

Brooke: Warm, inviting, and peaceful. 

 

What three things do you always keep on your nightstand?

 

Meggan: A book, lavender essential oil, and my vitamins (otherwise I'd forget to take them!). I just finished The Idea Of You (soo good!) and now I’m reading Crazy Rich Asians - recommended by so many people!

Brooke: Water, a book, and my phone. I drink a glass of water before I do anything else in the morning - your body is dehydrated when you wake up, and it helps to flush out all the toxins. I’m currently reading The Perfect Couple, and I also just finished The Idea of You - my favorite book in a long time!

 

How is sleep important to your routine? Are you a night owl or a morning person?

 

Meggan: I consider myself both! Most nights, I stay up late reading. But I also love getting up early before the house wakes — I don't need a ton of sleep to function. I work out some mornings, but others I’ll just get up and make coffee, breakfast, check email, make my to-do list... I feel so rushed on the rare mornings that my husband or son gets up before me!

Brooke: My sleep routine is everything! However, sometimes it’s hard for me to keep up with it because I’m naturally a night owl — but with kids, I’ve been forced to become a morning person ;). I need a good 8 to 9 hours of sleep a night to properly function! 

 

What's your morning mantra?

 

Brooke: It’s a privilege to wake up each morning. I try to begin each day with gratitude and positivity. What you focus on becomes your reality.

Meggan: I love Brooke's mantra — I need to start focusing on that!


Describe your design style? Where do you find inspiration?

 

Brooke: Contemporary and fun. I don’t like to take interiors too seriously. If I want a white sofa, I’m going for the white sofa — it’s just furniture, have fun with it! I find inspo on Pinterest, Instagram, and home design magazines. My favorite home magazines are Elle Decor and Architectural Digest.

Meggan: My design style is mid-century modern and fun. I love adding unexpected pops of color like a pink rug or wasabi green couch. I follow a lot of designers on Instagram and check their blogs. My favorites are Amber Interiors and Becky Owens!

 

Finish this sentence. The first thing I do as soon as I get home is ______.

 

Meggan: Light candles and put my sweats on, ha!

Brooke: Throw on my comfy clothes ;). 

 

How do you keep your "allswell" when you are traveling?


Brooke: I always travel with my own pillow. It helps me stay balanced, sleep better, and just feel more at ease when I’m away from home.
